9:30 CET - Three-time Grand Slam champion Stan Wawrinka (37) said his niggling injury problems were finally behind him after quarter-final runs in Rotterdam and Marseille catapulted him back into the top 100 in the world rankings.

Wawrinka returned to the tennis circuit in March 2022 after more than a year on the sidelines following two operations on his left foot.

The Swiss veteran had said after his first-round US Open exit that he was getting closer to hanging up his racket but he was a lot more optimistic after battling past Aleksandar Vukic 6-4 1-6 6-1 at Indian Wells on Thursday.

"I've been practising good so I'm feeling physically and tennis-wise good. Happy to get the win, it's an important match and hopefully I can keep going," former world number three Wawrinka told reporters after his first-round victory.

9:27 CET - Andy Murray (35) said on Thursday that at this stage of his career he measures his success by the effort he gives on the court and not the ranking points he accumulates along the way.

By that standard Murray's gutsy 6-7(5) 6-1 6-4 win over Argentina's Tomas Etcheverry at Indian Wells on Thursday was a triumph, as the Scot was forced to dig deep in the hard fought battle.

"There are certain things I would like to achieve and certain goals that I set for myself but the number one thing is to give my best effort every single day," he told reporters.

"And if I do that I'll finish my career on a high note and know that I've left it all out there regardless of which ranking I get to or which tournaments I win.

"I always said my goal was getting to the latter stages of the majors, and that's still a big goal for me and I still believe I have that in me. But also what happened in Australia was an incredible experience for me."

She walked on to the sun-soaked showpiece court to a loud ovation and after going 2-0 down, began to find the range with her forehand and sealed the 33-minute first set with a second service ace.

The story repeated in the second set where she again fell behind 2-0 before recovering to advance to the second round, where she will face Poland's Magda Linette.

"I'm happy I stuck in," Raducanu said in an on-court interview.

"Being a break down is difficult of course but I think mentally I just took it a point at a time."

She said she relished playing on what she called one of her favorite courts.

"I'm just so happy to have got through and hopefully play another match in front of you guys," she said.
