20:20 CET - Many were backing Frances Tiafoe (25) to be a contender in Barcelona but he's fallen at the first hurdle, losing 6-4, 6-7, 6-4 to Emil Ruusuvuori (24) in a game that lasted almost three hours.
18:25 CET - Carlos Alcaraz (19), the Barcelona Open favourite, has started his title defence with an impressive win over Nuno Borges (26). The Spaniard won 6-3, 6-1 in just over an hour.
17:36 CET - After a difficult year or so, two-time French Open finalist Dominic Thiem (29) has shown some signs of progress early on in the clay court season and continues to do so in Munich. After winning the first set of his opening match 6-3 the Austrian progressed to the next round with opponent Constant Lestienne (30) retiring through injury.
16:50 CET - Two veterans went to head in Barcelona and there was little to choose between them for most of the match with David Goffin (32) beating Feliciano Lopez (41) 7-6, 6-7, 6-0.
Also in Spain, Diego Schwartzman (30) - Goffin's conqueror in Monte Carlo - beat Wu Yibing (23) 6-2, 6-2 while last year's runner-up in Monaco, Alejandro Davidovich Fokina (23), beat Tomas Martin Etcheverry (23) 6-3, 6-3.
Over in Germany, fifth seed Sebastian Baez (22) has lost to Oscar Otte (29) and Marc-Andrea Huesler (26) has beaten Kyle Edmund (28) in Munich, while world number 20 Martina Trevisan (29) retired after losing the first set to world number 14 Beatriz Haddad MaiaBeatriz Haddad Maia (26) in Stuttgart.
15:27 CET - Paula Badosa (25) has upset world number eight Daria Kasatkina (25) in Stuttgart in some style, smashing the Russian player 6-1, 6-1.
14:17 CET - A tiebreak had to separate Casper Ruud and Ben Shelton as the Norwegian had to fight hard in the second and final set to earn his 6-2, 7-6 victory over the American.

9:30 CET - Zheng Qinwen (20) welcomed the WTA's decision to end its China boycott over concerns about Peng Shuai and the world number 25 said she is looking forward to showcasing her skills on home soil for the first time at Tour level.
The governing body of women's tennis suspended tournaments in China after former doubles number one Peng stated in a now-deleted 2021 social media post that a senior former Chinese government official had sexually assaulted her.
Peng briefly disappeared from public view after her post but made an appearance at the Beijing Winter Olympics last year and conducted an interview with French publication L'Equipe.

7:59 CET - Novak Djokovic (35) said Monday he has not fully recovered from an elbow issue which hindered him in his Monte Carlo Masters last-16 exit last week.
The world number one struggled with his serve before falling to Italian Lorenzo Musetti in Monaco.
"The elbow is not in ideal condition, but let's say it's good enough. Hopefully, it will be fully ready for the first match," said Djokovic, who had elbow surgery in 2018, ahead of this week's event in Banja Luka.

The Catalan city will also witness Casper Ruud's clash with Ben Shelton.
Meanwhile in Stuttgart, the women's tour is also attracting a lot of attention. With world number eight Daria Kasatkina facing Spanish Paula Badosa in an exciting clash, another one would be Emma Raducanu going against Jelena Ostapenko.
