Read more on that here.

16:37 CET - Top seed Novak Djokovic (35) has been knocked out of the Italian Open by world number seven Holger Rune (20) at the quarter-final stage.

After coming back, following a rain delay, from losing the first set to win the second, it looked as though Djokovic had worked his way back into the contest. However, Rune streaked ahead to a 4-0 lead in the deciding set before closing the match out at 6-2, 4-6, 6-2.

14:58 CET - Rome has been hit by some inclement weather, putting a stop to the tennis for now. Here's hoping the players can get back out there as soon as possible and we get to see all four headline matches today.

14:51 CET - It's getting spicy between Novak Djokovic (35) and Holger Rune (20) in their quarter-final clash in Rome! Unfortunately, rain has halted play for the time being.

11:52 CET - We have four tasty matches to look forward to today on the clay in Rome. None more so than Iga Swiatek (21) and Elena Rybakina's (23) blockbuster quarter-final

World number one Swiatek has seemingly breezed by everyone in her way of late but, intriguingly, Rybakina has the wood over her this year, having beaten her twice on hard courts.

Read more about their encounter later today here.

8:59 CET - Novak Djokovic (35) and Holger Rune (20) kick off today's quarter-finals at 13:00 CET, in what is a rerun of the Paris Masters final last year. Rune came out victorious in that contest, as he clinched the biggest title of his career.

Paula Badosa (25) faces Jelena Ostapenko (25) while Casper Ruud (24) goes up against Francisco Cerundolo (24) in the following matches, before the big match-up this evening.

Iga Swiatek (21) and Elena Rybakina (23) go head to head in the final game of the day, in what should be a brilliant contest. Rybakina has beaten Swiatek in both of their meetings this year, albeit on hard courts. On clay, Swiatek will be feeling a lot more confident about her chances of progressing.

You can follow the men's and women's quarter-finals live at Flashscore.

8:40 CET - Before we look ahead to today's play, let's wrap up the last of yesterday's matches which ended up finishing late.

After achieving one of the biggest shocks in ATP history when he defeated Carlos Alcaraz, Fabian Marozsan (23) was ousted in three sets by Borna Coric (26) 3-6, 6-4, 6-3. Coric will now face Stefanos Tsitsipas (24) in the quarters, after the Greek beat home favourite Lorenzo Musetti (21) 7-5. 7-5.
