Talent Musiala stars in Bayern's 4-0 win over Leverkusen
The Rekordmeister certainly helped to ease pressure off their under-fire manager Julian Nagelsmann in a devastating first-half display. In defeat to Augsburg last time out, their 87-game goalscoring streak came to an end, but Die Werkself’s rearguard was broken through inside three minutes here. Jamal Musiala’s low cross into the box was picked up by Leroy Sané to shoot, with the ball eventually beating the goalkeeper via a deflection from Mohamed Simakan.
A positive international break had clearly filled Musiala with confidence, as the 19-year-old was pulling all the strings and got himself on the scoresheet to double the lead. Dayot Upamecano found his run, before playing a one-two with Thomas Müller and driving a beautiful volley in at the near post. The Germany international had a hand in the third as well, sliding in Sadio Mané to score from the edge of the area, breaking a five-game scoring duck for Die Roten.
Bayern showed little sign of letting up after HT, with Lukáš Hrádecký called into action to make a superb reflex save, denying Mané a second. The Senegal international’s luck didn’t improve after finding the net again, only for it to be disallowed thanks to a foul in the build-up. Caution was still necessary for the hosts though, as Leverkusen remained proficient on the counter attack, something they displayed to feed the returning Amine Adli a huge chance to reduce the arrears, but Manuel Neuer made a superb save.
Müller put the icing on the cake in the closing stages, seizing on a disastrous slip from Hrádecký to tap in the fourth. Although not an unexpected result, yet another defeat piles further pressure on Gerardo Seoane, with his Leverkusen side slipping into the relegation places as a result, having won just one of their opening eight league fixtures.
