Jordi Alba set to leave Barcelona despite one year remaining on contract
He has one year left on his contract at Barcelona, but the player from L'Hospitalet will not fulfil it. After multiple conversations he has had with the senior staff of the Catalan club, his decision has been not to continue.
Last summer he was already looking for a team, trying to force his exit, because his salary was too high for the economic reality that the club was experiencing.
However, Alba, as Gerard Pique (36), Sergio Busquets (34) and Frenkie de Jong (26) did at the time, refused to do so, which caused him to fall out with some of the fans, especially at the beginning of the season.
Then, with his performances, although he lost his starting place to Alejandro Balde (19), he earned a place at the World Cup with the national team and has been an important part of the LaLiga title, the last one he will win with Barcelona.
After 11 seasons with the Blaugrana, where he trained before moving to Valencia, he will bid farewell this Sunday against Mallorca at Camp Nou. It will also be Busquets' last game.
