Dynamo Kyiv coach Mircea Lucescu (76) refused to attend a press conference after Wednesday's Champions League second round match at Fenerbahce because of the behaviour of some home fans. Some of the Turkish supporters chanted the name of Russian President Vladimir Putin provocatively during the match.

"Everything went according to plan. We worked hard and won. But I didn't count on the fans, I didn't expect such chanting. It's a shame," Lucescu, an experienced Romanian coach who has previously worked in Turkey with Galatasaray and Besiktkas as well as the national team, said in a television interview.

Dynamo Kyiv won 2-1 after extra time at Fenerbahce's ground and, with the goalless draw from the first leg, advanced to the third round of the Champions League. After the elimination, the Turkish vice-champion dropped down to the Europa League, where they will face Czech side Slovácko in the third round.

Fenerbahce fans began chanting the name of Russian President Putin, who is behind the military invasion of Ukraine, after Vitaly Bujalski sent the visitors into the lead in the 57th minute. The incident was immediately discussed on social media and many Fenerbahce supporters condemned the fans' behaviour in the stadium, according to DPA.
