Lazio outlasted 10-man Atalanta to seal a 2-0 win that saw the Roman side climb into third place in the Serie A standings and extend their unbeaten league run to seven games. Felipe Anderson added to Mattia Zaccagni's before Luis Muriel was sent off for a second yellow card late on.

Despite a boisterous home crowd roaring Atalanta on, Lazio were on the front foot from the off. Their quick passing appeared to be too much to handle for the hosts, and Maurizio Sarri’s men were rewarded with their efforts within 10 minutes.

A slick move on the edge of the box was capped off by Pedro picking out Zaccagni at the back post, who darted in totally unmarked and tapped home the visitors’ opener.

Atalanta’s porous defense on the night did not tighten up in the early minutes of the second half, and they were burned when Adam Marusic slid in Felipe Anderson, who fired home after a fancy turn out of pressure to double Lazio’s lead in style.

The high-powered Atalanta attack pushed to find a way back into the game, but they were met by a solid Lazio rearguard determined to hold on for a crucial away victory in the Serie A top-four race.

Maurizio Sarri’s side had all the answers for the waves of Atalanta pressure on the night, ensuring the capital club secured a fourth win in five Serie A clashes.

To make matters worse, Atalanta striker Muriel was given his marching orders in stoppage time after picking up his second yellow card on the night, capping off a woeful night for the hosts.

La Dea will be extremely disappointed to put in a limp performance on a night in which they had a chance to jump up to the top of the Serie A table.

However, seven wins from their first 11 games this campaign see Gasperini’s men well within the hunt for their first top-four finish since 2021.
