After a 2-0 loss to West Ham United on Saturday, Everton's board have reportedly sacked manager Frank Lampard (44) after a poor run of form that leaves the Merseyside club mired in a relegation battle.

Lampard took over Everton in January 2022 and was able to stave off relegation with a late flurry of points that kept them in the Premier League, but he has been unable to improve his side, seeing him lose his job just under a year on from his appointment.

This season, the Goodison Park outfit have won just three games in the league - the least of any side - with the last of those coming against Crystal Palace back in October.

The loss to West Ham, as well as the defeat at home to bottom club Southampton a week earlier, were final nails in the coffin for Lampard.

"Frank and his team’s commitment and dedication have been exemplary throughout their time at the Club, but recent results and the current league position meant this difficult decision had to be taken" the club said in a statement.

"Everyone at Everton would like to thank Frank and his coaching staff for their service during what has been a challenging 12 months. We wish Frank and all his backroom team well for their future in the game," the club added.

Joe Edwards, Paul Clement, Ashley Cole and Chris Jones have also left the Club. Alan Kelly will remain as goalkeeping coach.

This is the second time Lampard has been dismissed from a top flight club, having been sacked at Chelsea in 2021 - again, because of poor form.

Everton will now look for a replacement, with the club confirming Paul Tait and Leighton Baines will take training until a new manager is appointed, the club said.

Their next game is against league leaders Arsenal on February 4 with a Merseyside derby nine days later against rivals Liverpool.
