PSG's star shine bright in huge 7-1 win over Lille
Their first record of the night was to score the fastest-ever Ligue 1 goal, and Neymar started the move by working the ball to Lionel Messi straight from kick-off. The Argentine clipped a perfectly-weighted pass forward for Kylian Mbappé to dink over Léo Jardim, and score just eight seconds into the match to make history. Neymar and Mbappé both wasted good opportunities to add a second, but it wasn’t long coming, arriving in the 27th minute after Messi played a brilliant one-two with Nuno Mendes, before nonchalantly sliding the ball into the bottom corner.
The visitors were proving to be simply unstoppable, and their second record was sealed 12 minutes later, when Neymar slid in Achraf Hakimi to fire across Jardim from a tight angle, making PSG the first side in Ligue 1 history to score at least three goals in six consecutive away matches. Neymar then capped off PSG’s emphatic first-half display, clinically finishing after Messi’s pass was deflected into his path.
It took just six second-half minutes for PSG to get on the scoresheet again. This time, Mbappé stepped over Hakimi’s pass, allowing the ball to run through for Neymar to score his seventh goal in four matches this season. Lille then finally got a goal of their own moments later, as Jonathan Bamba converted at the second attempt after latching onto Ismaily’s low cross.
That proved to be but a fleeting respite, with the visitors’ sixth quickly coming courtesy of Mbappé, as he played a pass out to Neymar before racing forward to latch onto the return, giving Jardim no chance with his strike. Clearly not content with six, PSG made it seven as injury time loomed, with Mbappé pulling off José Fonte’s shoulder and firing home for his 17th PSG hat-trick, adding yet another layer of gloss to a night of pure Parisian class.
Once again, PSG showed Ligue 1 how dominant they can be, emphatically maintaining their 100% record in all competitions this season. Meanwhile, Lille were completely blown away as they suffered a first defeat this campaign, with their cherished memories of wresting the title from PSG last spring now very distant.
