A Jordan Pickford error allowed Harry Kane to score his 14th goal in his last 11 games against Everton, as Tottenham Hotspur edged out a 2-0 victory over the Toffees to keep this season’s 100% home record intact.

After narrowly seeing out a 3-2 midweek win over Eintracht Frankfurt in the UEFA Champions League, Tottenham had the opportunity to make it three successive wins in all competitions if they could seal a victory over visitors Everton. Perhaps mindful of the 5-0 mauling his side faced in this fixture last season, Frank Lampard set the Toffees up in a deep defensive shape, allowing Spurs plenty of the ball.

For all their possession Tottenham were limited to few chances in the early stages, in fact the best opportunity fell to Everton’s Demarai Gray, who came close to scoring his first-ever goal against Spurs, instead firing over the bar. Everton did a brilliant job of frustrating the hosts in the first half and almost capped off a near-perfect 45 minutes when a rare Pierre-Emile Højbjerg mistake allowed Amadou Onana to charge into the box and blaze his effort wide, keeping the scores level at HT.

The second half started dramatically, first seeing Richarlison forced off injured against his former side, before Kane saw his beautifully struck volley incredibly stopped by his English compatriot Pickford. Kane and Pickford were the centre of attention shortly afterwards when the latter brought down the England captain in the area, allowing the forward to score from the spot - his 9th league goal of the season.

The Toffees had scored in each of their Premier League away games this season and the visitors were giving it their all to keep that record intact. Lampard sent on strikers Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Salomón Rondón in a bid to level the scores late on. However, it was to no avail, with little time remaining Rodrigo Bentancur picked out his midfield partner Højbjerg, who was allowed the time to pick his spot for 2-0, sealing all three points.
