Joel Embiid (28) produced a spectacular 53-point performance on Sunday to help the Philadelphia Sixers beat the Charlotte Hornets 131-113, while the New Orleans Pelicans beat the Suns 129-124 in overtime.

Embiid became the first NBA player this season to score more than 50 points in multiple games. The Cameroonian scored 53 points in the match, hitting 20-of-32 shots, including 2-of-3 three-pointers, and made all 11 of his free throws while grabbing 12 rebounds.

He becomes the third player in Sixers history to score 50 or more points in multiple games in a season, joining Allen Iverson and Wilt Chamberlain.

"It's been incredible to watch," reacted teammate Montrezl Harrell (9 pts, 4 assists, 3 rbds). "He's a skilled player. He does so much for our team offensively and defensively as well."

"The fact that he plays dominantly on both ends of the floor shows what a great player he is," he added.

The Sixers remain fifth in the East (14 wins, 12 losses), while Charlotte sinks to 14th (7-20).

After scoring 35 points in the Pelicans' win over the Suns on Friday, Zion Williamson repeated that performance to lead New Orleans to its seventh straight triumph.

The big man also grabbed eight rebounds and dished out three assists. In a rare move for him, he even made two 3-pointers.

CJ McCollum added 29 points for the Pelicans, who extend their lead at the top of the Western Conference with a record of 18 wins and 8 losses.

The Suns, who were without Devin Booker (hamstring), suffered their fourth straight loss, although they remain fourth in the West (16-11).

In Atlanta, the Hawks beat the Bulls 123-122 in overtime on an improbable basket at the buzzer by AJ Griffin (17 pts).

LeBron James' Lakers, meanwhile, returned to winning ways after three consecutive losses. The Los Angeles franchise, still trailing in the standings with an 11-15 record, won on the road at the Detroit Pistons (124-117), thanks to 35 points from LeBron James and a double-double from Anthony Davis (34 pts, 15 rbds).

The New York Knicks recorded their fourth consecutive win, defeating the Sacramento Kings 112-99. Julius Randle and RJ Barrett both scored 27 points.

German Franz Wagner scored 23 points and Italian-American Paolo Banchero, the first pick in the 2022 NBA draft, added 20 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Orlando Magic to a 111-99 home win over the Toronto Raptors.

Giannis Antetokounmpo's Bucks (16 pts, 18 rbds), second in the Eastern Conference (19-7), were stunned by the Houston Rockets (97-92), last in the West (8-18). Jalen Green scored 30 points.
