Fernando Hierro leaves for Mexico to become Chivas' new sporting director
Without winning a league title since the Clausura in 2017, failing to advance beyond the quarter-finals since the Apertura in 2020, and with a sporting crisis that seems to have no end in sight, Chivas Guadalajara have sought a new way to regain the dominance they once had in Mexican football. And their bet is called Fernando Hierro.
"I wanted to go to a place where I could really feel the excitement of a challenge, of a project, of a way of understanding football, and Chivas is it", confessed the brand new sporting director in declarations to the media of his new club.
The enthusiasm he has shown on his arrival is evident in his statements. "Since I was presented with the opportunity, I have to recognise that it awoke in me a very great motivation because it is a different project, a differentiating one, which has millions of Mexicans in its soul".
A pressure that the Malagueno is used to, first in his career as a footballer, and then in his role as a coach and in the offices. His next quest will be to try to restore Chivas to greatness.
And his first mission is clear: to find a coach. His profile is clear. "We want someone who knows how to work with youngsters, who has worked in and knows the Mexican league and the big leagues in Europe, with a mentality.
