The round of 16 of the EuroBasket began on Saturday as reigning champions Slovenia started their campaign with victory over Belgium, France edged out Turkey in overtime, whilst in the evening play-off hosts Germany beat Montenegro as Spain needed overtime to see off Lithuania.

France - Turkey 87-86 (OT)

France claimed a thrilling 87-86 win against Turkey in the first knockout match, despite squandering a 49-38 lead in the third quarter. Turkey stormed back with a stunning 19-0 run, putting the French side under huge pressure.

However, with just 2.5 seconds left, Rudy Gobert came up clutch to take it to overtime, where a 3-pointer from Evan Fournier sealed the victory.

Gobert gave his best performance of EuroBasket so far, with 20 points and 17 rebounds, and his resilience was symbolic of his side's late fight back.

Slovenia - Belgium 88-72

Dallas Mavericks' Luka Doncic was the star of the show for Slovenia as a late burst ensured an 88-72 win for the reigning champions.

Belgium had stuck with Slovenia for large portions of the game, and had even led by one point in the final quarter. But a 15-0 run by Slovenia proved too much as they powered through their opponents.

Doncic's performance was nothing short of brilliant, as he scored 35 points, five rebounds, five assists and four steals. This was the third match in a row he had scored over 30 points, making him the only player to do this in the last 30 years.

Germany - Montenegro 85-79

Kendrick Perry scored 25 points with six assists for his Montenegro side but that was enough to hold off Germany, who advanced into the next round thanks to contributions from Dennis Schroder and Maodo Lo.

Germany did most of the damage in the first two quarters, outscoring their opponents by nine in the first and by a staggering 15 in the second.

Montenegro came out and improved in the second half, but it was not enough as they crashed out of the tournament.

Spain - Lithuania 102-94 (OT)

Spain saw off a stubborn Lithuania side in overtime after a topsy-turvy encounter where both sides could never wrestle momentum in the match.

The Spaniards had Lucas Brown to thank for much of their offense as he scored 28 points with three rebounds and eight assists.

With the scores level at 83-83 after four quarters, Spain put their foot down, scoring 19 points compared to their opponents' 11 to see them into the final eight.
