What made Samuel Eto'o furious was allegedly a question about referee Bakary Gassama, accused by the Algerians of violating Article 5 on international arbitration for refusing to VAR review certain episodes in favour of the home team in the playoff match against Cameroon.

A clip was released by La Opinión about the attack on a youtuber by Samuel Eto'o, president of the Cameroon federation, as he exited the 974 stadium after the Brazil-South Korea match is making the rounds.

After a few selfies with the fans, Eto'o was approached by the youtuber who said something that made him very nervous. The subject, as the Algerian youtuber himself explains, was the Gambian referee Bakary Gassama, at the centre of a controversy in the playoff match between Algeria and Cameroon.

The match, played on 29 March 2022, saw Algeria's 2-1 defeat and a series of controversial episodes. In fact, referee Bakary Gassama refused to review some of Algeria's actions at VAR, thus contravening, according to the Algerians, Article 5 on international arbitration.

After that match, Gassama was targeted by a crowd of Algerian fans at the Hoari-Boumédiène airport in Algiers as he was about to board a flight, and only the arrival of security prevented worse scenarios. Evidently still an open wound for Algeria, which also appealed to FIFA after the episode.
