Chelsea have confirmed the purchase of Molde player David Datro Fofana (20), who will begin his career at the club at the turn of the year.

The Ivory Coast striker has been on Chelsea's radar for a while now, and the London club are rumoured to be paying around 10 million pounds for Fofana, which would be a Norwegian league record. A sum that could rise to just over 12 million.

Fofana, who has signed a contract until the summer of 2029, joined Molde on a four-year deal in the winter of 2021, and in the 2022 season scored 17 goals and made six assists in 29 games.

"It's a dream come true. I will admit that Chelsea is a big step for him, but when opportunities like this arise for a young player with such crazy potential as he has, you just have to take the chance," the player's agent Atta Aneke told Norwegian newspaper VG.

"They want to sign the best young talents in the world and have a very clear plan on how to make them succeed in the best possible way," Aneke said.

Fofana made his debut for the Ivory Coast national team in a 4-0 friendly win against Burundi in November.

Once all the paperwork between the two clubs has been finalised, Fofana could be in line to make an appearance for the Blues when they play Manchester City on January 5.
